Hypnosis / Hypnoanalysis FAQ
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is simply a narrowing focus of attention. It allows you to filter out all the outside noise and distractions so you can direct your energy to whatever has brought you to therapy. Most people remember everything throughout a session as it is a heightened state of awareness.
What is hypnotherapy or Hypnoanalysis?
Hypnotherapy is an interactive therapeutic process to facilitate physical, emotional, and/or mental health in individuals. An interactive process where you are fully aware and in control of everything you are saying and doing while working with the therapist. However, you are in a more focused state so it is typically easier to gain insight and create long lasting change.
What are some common reasons for using hypnosis/hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis and hypnotherapy can be used for almost anything and everything that you would want to effect positive change.
A few of the many areas follow:
- smoking cessation
- weight loss
- body image
- career goals/achievement
- sports achievement
- treating mental illness
- chronic illness
- pain management
- stress reduction
- increase self-awareness
What is a trance?
There are different types and levels of trance. Trance is a state of heightened awareness with a reduced peripheral awareness. It allows you to remain highly focused on whatever the issue is at hand. Hypnotic trance, in its deepest state, has allowed doctors to perform surgical procedures without anesthesia. A light trance is all that is necessary to begin the therapeutic process. Focusing techniques have the same effect by allowing you to concentrate on whatever it is you want to work on.
Can I be hypnotized?
Almost everyone can be hypnotized. For those who find it challenging, I use focusing techniques and other tools to effect positive change. We always discuss options before we proceed with any technique.
Are you going to swing a watch in front of me and tell me my eyes are getting heavy?
No. My style of hypnosis is more about using focus techniques and tools to allow you to get to the root of the issue and create positive change in the most effective yet empathetic way.
Will I remember what happened?
Most people remember everything, because the state of hypnosis is a heightened state of awareness. Some clients report more detail than usual because they are in tune to what they are focused on.
What does hypnosis feel like?
The experience is unique for everyone. Some just feel a little bit more laid back than usual. Some experience a sense of feeling heavier or perhaps lighter, as if you are floating. You may feel a tingling in your hands or feet. Most people are visual, and picture events and situations, while others can hear, smell, or feel familiar objects or situations. Whatever your experience, it’s just right for you as we are all so unique. Simply put, you’re more open to whatever and wherever you need to go to get better.
